Dr. Paige K. Berger received her PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Georgia, during which time she also earned her registered dietitian nutritionist credential. Her graduate research focused on nutritional interventions for the early prevention of obesity and osteoporosis in children and adolescents. After receiving her degree, Dr. Berger pursued postdoctoral research with Dr. Leann Birch examining the influence of mothers and other environmental exposures on infant and child food intake, weight status, and body composition. Dr. Berger transitioned from this early postdoctoral position to a second fellowship with Dr. Michael Goran examining biological determinants of human milk that shape the anatomical structure of the infant brain. Dr. Berger received an NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award in support of this research entitled, “Role of Human Milk Oligosaccharides on Infant Brain Development.” Dr. Berger has a long list of publications in high-impact journals, over 50% of which are first-author papers. She has also received numerous awards, which include the Emerging Leader in Nutrition Science Award from the American Society for Nutrition and the Young Investigator Award from Nutrients and the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute. In the spring, Dr. Berger became a faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Newborn Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital through Harvard Medical School.
