Downtown Greensboro Incorporated
Zack Matheny is the President of Downtown Greensboro Incorporated (DGI), an independent, non-profit agency which works closely with the private sector and local government to stimulate new investment and interest in Greensboro’s Central Business District. Matheny’s qualifications blends government, non-profit and civic engagement experience.
Since his hiring in July 2015, Downtown Greensboro has experienced tremendous growth with over $600 million in development, including numerous new restaurants and shops, as well as new residential and commercial properties. Community branding, public art, and innovative programming have also increased pedestrian activity in the center city.
In 2021, Matheny began serving as the President of the North Carolina Downtown Developers Association and is a current member of the International Downtown Association’s Board of Directors.
Prior to his role at DGI, Matheny was a four term Greensboro City Councilman and ran White Oak Capital, Inc. a real estate and business development company.
Originally from Statesville, North Carolina, Matheny received his Bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University in 1996. He and his late wife, Lauran, have three children, Cameron, William, and Lily Grace.
