Stuart Sommers (BA) is a professional research assistant working for the University of Colorado Department of Emergency Medicine Opioid Research Program. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a Neuroscience degree and then worked as Chief Medical Scribe in the University of Colorado Hospital Emergency Department. He discovered a passion for clinical research while working in the Emergency Department with a variety of clinician-researchers. He has been working with Dr. Jason Hoppe on a system-wide project to improve the utilization of the statewide prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) via the use of EHR embedded clinical decision support (CDS). One project goal is to ensure providers get the most accurate data to inform controlled medication prescribing decisions. Specifically, Stuart is working to improve interruptive CDS alerts while simultaneously tackling the important problem of: how do we engage non adopters of clinical decision support?
