Medical Student
Mount Sinai Health System, New York, United States
Isaiah (Zay) Smolar is a second-year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Zay worked as an AEMT in Boston and Philadelphia, where he gained appreciation for the connections between pre-hospital care, patients' hospital courses, and their longer term goals of care. While studying Community Health at Tufts University, where he served as the Executive Director of Tufts EMS, Zay became interested in novel uses of the EMS infrastructure - such as community paramedicine - and is grateful to have been able to further this research interest under the mentorship of Dr. Kevin Munjal at the Icahn School of Medicine at Moint Sinai. Zay's other healthcare and research interests include health disparities research, healthcare access, maternal mortality, and the intersection of social justice and medicine.
