My research interest is the mechanisms of and preventive strategies against cardiovascular disease, with special focus upon the following areas. A) Adipokine trans-membrane signaling and cardiovascular protection. My laboratory endeavors to clarify how stress induced cell membrane sensor proteins’ modification contributes to the initiation and acceleration of cardiovascular disease progression and what role adipokines play in these processes; B) Diabetes related cardiovascular complications. Utilizing diverse approaches, we are interested to discover the molecule link between obesity/diabetes and cardiovascular injury and identify the novel therapeutic intervention capable of blocking these links. In this regard, we recently discovered that post-translational modification-induced adiponectin receptor desensitization results in adiponectin resistance and contributes to cardiometabolic dysregulation. Since 2011, my research projects have been continuously supported by external grant awards including NIH, American Diabetes Association, W.W. Smith Foundation, and American Heart Association.
