Chengyi Zheng, PhD, is a NLP specialist at the Kaiser Permanente Southern California Research and Evaluation Department. After received his PhD in Computer Science from the Oregon Health and Science University, he was a key person in designing and implementing a voice-controlled operation room system at Karl Stroz Endoscopy. Later as the biomedical informatics scientist and text mining leader at Eli Lilly, he collaborated with other researchers on informatics projects such as drug discovery, translational medicine, drug disposition, health outcome and patient safety. While at Eli Lilly, he ranked the 1st place in the company-wide innovation competition (InnoCentive @ Lilly). He has been with Kaiser Permanente since 2010 and led over 30 NLP projects across various disease areas. In 2016, he was the winner of the Kaiser Permanente machine learning competition. Currently, he is the PI of a CDC funded study on the vaccine safety study.
