She is also enrolled in the dual-degree program at NSU where she is completing a Master’s in Business Administration in Management. Laura earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a minor in Rehabilitation and Human Services at The Pennsylvania State University-Main Campus. As a pharmacy student, she joined the Student Government Association for the College of Pharmacy (SGA-COP), the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), Alpha Zeta Omega Fraternity (AZO), and the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP). As part of SGA-COP she developed her leadership skills as the P1 representative for the fundraising committee and is now serving as Vice-President where she continues to develop her interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills. In her role as Vice-President, she had the opportunity to represent the Puerto Rico COP student body at the annual town hall meeting with President George Hanbury, where she presented students’ concerns and advocated for their well-being. In recognition of her involvement and service to the college, Laura was awarded the Faculty Nominated - Student of the Month Award in January 2021. Now, as a third-year student, Laura is working as a research assistant with Dr. Nieves where she is exploring the applications of resonant acoustic mixing in compounding. She also participated in SSHP’s Clinical Skills Competition, and APhA’s Counseling Competition, and looks forward to participating again next year. Laura hopes to work in clinical pharmacy, but is excited to explore different opportunities through her education and co-curricular activities at NSU-COP.
