Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Alexandra Berges is a fourth-year medical student at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland and graduated from the Johns Hopkins University in 2017 with a degree in biomedical engineering focused on computational medicine, and a minor in computer science. During her undergraduate career, Alexandra founded a start-up company developing a breast biopsy
device for global settings, raising over 70K in nondilutive funding and patent pending. Alexandra then began medical school
at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she has been involved in two ophthalmology start-up companies
providing new technologies in the cornea and cataract spaces.
To further pursue her interests in innovation within otolaryngology, she pursued a year of Dean’s funded pre-doctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Hillel. Her research focuses on understanding the pathophysiology of an airway and voice disorder, laryngotracheal stenosis with the goal of targeted therapeutics. She has also been involved in several projects collecting clinical patient-reported outcomes data and studies incorporating virtual reality simulation in surgical training. Alexandra is excited to begin residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins starting in 2022!
