My name is Kieron White, I am a PhD student based at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). I completed my Bachelor's degree in Biological and Medical Sciences at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 2018. Following completion of my Undergraduate degree I was involved in the RCSI StAR summer internship scheme where I worked on a project to investigate improvement of drug delivery in Glioblastoma using nanotherapeutics.
I was fortunate to be accepted onto the GLIOTRAIN PhD programme funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 766069. My research project is focused on ‘Identifying new tumour microenvironment (TME) contexts of vulnerability in glioblastoma.’ By performing multi-omic analysis on the GLIOTRAIN and publicaly available GBM datasets, we will further interrogate the TME within GBM molecular subtypes and identify TME specific subtypes which may guide new directions for future therapies. These novel therapies will be tested in clinically relevant syngeneic disease models. Prof Annette Byrne is my primary supervisor at RCSI. During my four-year programme, I have been fortunate to spend time on secondment at INSERM Paris and will be involved in a virtual secondment with the Jackson Laboratory (JAX), under supervision of Prof. Roel Verhaak.
