My name is Md Yousuf Ali. I am from Bangladesh, a wonderful tropical country in Southeast Asia. I completed my bachelors and Master of Science (MS) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. I came to the United States in 2015 and completed my MS from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. During my MS training I have been involved studying effects of different toxicants in sleep cycle of Drosophila. The major focus of my research interest has been toxicology, and cancer biology. More specifically, I studied the mechanism of different xenobiotic/environmental carcinogen induced carcinogenesis and malignancies. Throughout these processes I have developed a profound interest in studying the role of tumor metabolism in cancer progression and therapy response.
In continuation to my research endeavor, I started my PhD journey with the Human Toxicology graduate program at the University of Iowa in Fall 2018. I joined the lab of Dr. Corinne E Griguer and studied glioblastoma radioresistance mechanism. I studied the role of cytochrome c oxidase and mitochondrial iron metabolism in GBM radioresistance.
In my free time I like traveling and writing. I also love to play soccer. I believe being able to be doing what I like to do as my profession and enjoying life is key to my happiness and livelihood.
