PWQ and ID manager for the Colorado Department of Transportation CDOT
Stormwater construction site inspections are inherently time consuming and resource intensive. With new guidelines from the EPA and state agencies mandating more frequent site inspections, RESPEC and CDOT have begun working together to incorporate drone imagery with artificial intelligence to reduce the load on site inspectors and optimize resources expended on site inspections. Research conducted by RESPEC and CDOT has begun to show promising results for replacing initial on-foot inspections with drone survey and processing the data using RESPEC's Intelligent Remote Identification System (IRIS). Initial results indicate sufficient accuracy for classifying sediment fence damage from drone imagery captured on construction sites in and around Denver, Colorado.
