P-8 - New Orofacial Pain Classification – a Useful Tool for the Clinician?

Orofacial pain complaints are frequent in the general population, and pain is a common reason for seeking dental care. As endodontists we meet patients with pain every day, and often the diagnosis and treatment are straightforward enough. Sometimes, the pain origin is more difficult to pinpoint, and all clinicians need to be aware of the many different conditions that can cause oral and facial pain, and how they can be identified and differentiated. This session is committed to the new international classification of orofacial pain (ICOP) that was published in 2020. The purpose and usefulness of the classification system is outlined, and the structure and content are discussed with focus on how this classification can be useful for the clinician in identifying and managing pain in their own practice, or guide referral of the patient to the correct dental or medical specialist.
