Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is as a psychosocial intervention that can be integrated with stuttering treatment strategies, to assist adults who stutter achieve increased speech fluency and improve psychosocial well-being. A novel, integrated fluency and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy intervention, titled the “fACTS Program”, was written and implemented as a clinical trial with 29 adults in Australia and the United States. Results found significant reductions in stuttered speech frequency, maintained at three- and six-months post-intervention, with significant improvements observed in self-efficacy, psychological flexibility, and psychosocial functioning. Participants reported significantly improved fluency and psychosocial changes as a result of the program.
