Jessica Lie is a general surgery resident at the University of British Columbia. She was raised in Montreal where she completed her medical school at McGill University. She completed three years of residency and is now taking a year to pursue a Masters in Public Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School to establish a strong foundation in epidemiology and statistical analysis as she works towards becoming an academic surgeon. Her interest in surgical oncology and research began in medical school where with the guidance of her mentors, she saw the impact cancer care had on patient's lives. She received an American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Medical Student Research Initiation Grant and published in the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery for her work looking at oncologic outcomes in colorectal and gastric cancer. In residency, in addition to surgical oncolgy, she has a passion for resident wellness and mentorship. She created and chairs the UBC General Surgery Social and Wellness Committee and is leading the re-initation of a Mentorship Program for the general surgery program.
Her current research interests are in oncologic outcomes and quality of life. She hopes to pursue a surgical oncology fellowship with a focus on surgical palliative care.
