Full-Day Course: Society of Surgical Oncology Robotic Pre-Meeting Symposium at UT SouthwesternWednesday, March 9, 2022, from 7:00 am- 4:45 pmOffsite at UT Southwestern Medical Center: transportation will be provided.
The SSO sponsored Robotic Surgery Pre-Meeting Symposium is a one, full day event where registrants will interact with leading experts in the field of robotic assisted cancer surgery. Specifically, registrants will observe real-time operative robotic cases including Whipple procedure, gastrectomy, colectomy, and partial hepatectomy within the operative theatre and live-streamed. Registrants will also participate in drills utilizing the DaVinci robotic platform with anatomically comparable biotissues to perform surgical skills including hepaticojejunostomy, pancreatojejunostomy, and enteric anastomosis. In addition, faculty will undergo didactic teaching by leading experts in the field aimed at learning the tips and tricks of robotic assisted pancreatectomies, colectomies, gastrectomies, and hepatectomies. This SSO sponsored event will be held at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Transportation, lunch, and reception are included with registration fee. Open to all junior faculty within 7 years post-fellowship training.

Half-Day Course: Keys to Success in Basic and Translational Science Research for the Surgical Oncologist - From Career Development to Novel Translational Oncology ProgramsHilton AnatoleWednesday, March 9, 2022, from 2:00 pm- 5:00 pmThis educational pre-meeting will focus on career development as well as cutting-edge translational research programs that are commensurate with a career in academic surgical oncology. The session will consist of presentations by surgical oncologists who have successfully navigated the path to become independently funded researchers (R01-level and investigator-initiated clinical trials) and younger faculty who have successfully launched their research careers with K-level funding. The topics include models and pathways to become a funded investigator, incorporating translational research into clinical trials, and novel translational oncology technologies. Panel Q&A will follow each session. Open to all researchers.

Half-Day Fellows Institute II: Practical Aspects of Starting a Surgical Oncology CareerHilton AnatoleWednesday, March 9, 2022, from 2:00 pm- 5:00 pmBuilding on career development topics from SSO’s popular Fellows Institute event, this workshop will focus on areas such as building a CV, initial contract negotiation, and money management, culminating in a panel discussion on the differences of working in a private versus academic setting. Faculty will speak to personal experiences with good opportunities for Q &A with attendees. Open to all fellows.
