Dr. Varley is a graduate of NYU School of Medicine, and subsequently completed general surgery residency and fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While in Pittsburgh, he also completed a Masters in Clinical Research at the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Wisconsin, where his clinical practice includes peritoneal surface malignancy, pancreatic surgery and melanoma. He also holds an appointement at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital where he practices broad-based surgical oncology. His research focuses on the intersection between aging, surgery and cancer including identification of biomarkers for resilience and understanding how frailty influences surgical decision-making and outcomes in patients with solid tumors.
