Dr. Rado is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and General Internal Medicine in the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Internal Medicine, and Associate Director, Psychosomatic Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He received his M.D. from Michigan State University; and completed a combined residency in psychiatry and internal medicine at Rush University Medical Center. He directed the Psychosis Clinic for many years at Rush University Medical Center and has practiced integrated internal medicine and psychiatry in primary care for more than 15 years.
Dr. Rado co-authored an American Psychiatric Association position statement on the role of the psychiatrist in the physical health of their patients. He is a Past-President of the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry, a national organization focused on clinical practice and training at the interface of medicine and psychiatry.
More recently, he piloted the first primary care integrated mental health care program at Northwestern employing the collaborative care model. Based on its success, Northwestern has since rolled out this program into all of their primary care practices in conjunction with a large scale implementation study.
His other clinical interests are severe mental illness, particularly schizophrenia and associated medical issues. His research interests include the prevention of the metabolic adverse effects of antipsychotic medications in patients with schizophrenia. He is the co-author of a handbook for patients and families entitled Living with Schizophrenia: A Family Guide to Making a Difference.
