Doctors who practice consultation-liaison psychiatry are the consulting experts in prescribing psychotropic drugs in general hospitals and certain primary care or medical specialty outpatient settings. Thus, they are not typically identified as the prescribing doctor. They work with other MD/DOs (internists, gynecologists, surgeons, etc.) to choose appropriate medications for patients with comorbid psychiatric and medical conditions.
