As they did in many cities, brownfield sites across Trenton proliferated as a result of the industrial decline that began in the 1960s. The city’s brownfields remediation program has overcome contentious local politics, limited resources, and an overwhelming number of sites demanding attention. It is an integral part of the Trenton250 Master Plan, which will guide the city to its 250th anniversary of incorporation in 2042. More than $30 million in state, federal, and other brownfields grants move the work forward.
Learn how Trenton has prioritized sites, secured funding and other technical assistance, and pushed through bureaucracy to get projects completed. The city engaged with community members on a brownfields area plan and conducted charrettes and other activities to ensure that residents’ visions for particular sites were realized. Visit project sites including Assunpink Greenway, Roebling Wireworks, Assunpink Creek Daylighting, and Magic Marker to see how they evolved and were completed.
Attendees walk approximately one mile during the workshop.
Learning Objectives:
Secure and use grants and technical assistance to complete brownfield remediation projects.
