J.R. Capasso is the Brownfields Coordinator for the City of Trenton. With over 21 years of experience, J.R. manages the City’s Brownfields Program, brownfields remediation projects, regulatory compliance, real estate development, community and intergovernmental outreach, and state and Federal brownfields grant and loan programs. Dozens of sites in Trenton have been redeveloped for a variety of reuses, winning seven national Phoenix Awards for brownfields redevelopment since 1999 (more than any other city if the United States). Over $30 Million in public brownfields grants have been received to investigate and remediate eligible sites.
J.R. received a Brownfields Leadership Award from the National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NALGEP) in 2013 and received an Environmental Champion Award from USEPA Region 2 in 2017. He is a former environmental consultant.
J.R. has worked with several private, state and Federal groups on brownfields issues including the Brownfields Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE), the Brownfield Communities Network (BCN), NALGEP and the Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC). J.R. is a Professional Geologist certified by the American Institute of Professional Geologists, has a B.S. in Geology from Stockton College of New Jersey and an M.S. in Geology from the University of Delaware.
