Luigi Nocera, MD, was born in Mazzarino, Sicily, Italy. He obtained his medical degree at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan with a dissertation topic on the metabolomic of prostate cancer, under the supervision of Prof. Montorsi and Prof. Briganti. During medical school, he completed a resarch fellowship at Vattikuti Urology Institute, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, under the supervision of Dr. Menon and Dr. Abdollah. Then, he started his residency at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele and its affiliated Ospedale San Raffaele. Currently, he is chief resident and he is attending his PGY-5. During residency, he finalized a research fellowship at Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CR-CHUM), Montreal, Canada, under the supervision of Prof. Karakiewicz. Moreover, he also finalized a clinical fellowship at Onze Lieve Vrouw (OLV) Ziekenhuis, Aalst, Belgium and ORSI Academy, Melle, Belgium, under the supervision of Prof. Mottrie.
Dr. Nocera's main focuses are urologic oncology and minimally invasive surgery, with special interest in prostate cancer, urothelial cancer, kidney cancer and robotic surgery. He has been actively involved in research since medical school, publishing over 80 papers and 200 abstracts at national and international congresses. His H-index is 15 (Google Scholar), 13 (Scopus). He is reviewer for many oncological and urological high impacted journals including Journal of Urology, European Urology Oncology, Cancers, Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, BJU International and Frontiers in Oncology. Moreover, he is currently member of European Urology Association, American Urological Association and Società Italiana di Urologia.
