Session Description: Outpatient healthcare services have expanded over the years with more patients seeking care in the ambulatory care setting. An infection prevention program is a crucial element to prevention and control of infections to patients, visitors, and healthcare workers. This education session will share the journey of how an ambulatory care setting infection prevention program was developed for a large medical group, consisting of over 450 multi-specialty practices. The objective of the infection prevention program was to reduce risk, safety events, and provide high quality patient care. This was accomplished by evaluating current state, identifying scope of services and procedures performed, developing infection prevention organizational structure, and incorporating acute care infection prevention program principles into an ambulatory care setting infection prevention program.
