Session Description: CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) uses the healthcare-associated infection (HAI) data reported by hospitals to produce various metrics that measure changes in HAI incidence and antimicrobial resistance. In addition to measuring progress toward National HAI goals, the standardized infection ratio (SIR) has been used to measure changes in incidence over the course of significant public health events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. During this session, the presenters will review the methods used to measure HAI incidence, HAI antimicrobial resistance, and the impact of COVID-19 on HAIs in inpatient settings. The presenters will demonstrate how hospitals can apply these methods to assess changes within their own organization.
