The European, American and Australian Model of education have similarities, but also considerable differences. Institutional goals of education include a focus on improving learning processes and outcomes, the components of which may vary in emphasis.
The main aim may underscore research, may stress continuation, transfer, and application of knowledge, or may focus on student life and education with a humanistic learning environment. Clinical education and patient care play an indispensable role in teaching of clinical dentistry and can have a public health benefit, with dental students placed in community clinics or an individualized approach with dental students operating in a quasi-private practice environment.
This presentation will provide an overview from the perspective of two long term educators on what worked and what didn’t on three continents, while investigating reasons for achieved outcomes.
