Objectives: Provide resources for endodontic specialists to build relationships with referring doctors regarding the fundamentals required for successful endodontic treatment. By sharing our knowledge, we can help general dentists recognize cases that are within their ability, have a better understanding of when to refer, and ultimately help in improving outcomes for our mutual patients.
Description: As specialists, our experience, armamentarium, and training allow us to provide the highest quality endodontic care for our patients. Research has demonstrated better outcomes for root canal treated teeth when performed by specialists as compared to general practitioners. How can we positively influence outcomes on root canal treatment performed by our referring doctors? This table clinic will provide strategies and tips that will decrease the likelihood of iatrogenic errors, improve the shaping and disinfection protocols utilized, and aid in 3D obturation of the root canal system. Sharing this information will help to build stronger relationships with referral bases.
Conclusion: By having an informational pamphlet to provide to referring general dentists we can simultaneously accomplish these goals: 1) Provide education that will positively impact patient outcomes; 2) Establish rapport and trust with general dentists; and 3) Reinforce the value endodontic specialists provide to both patients and general dentists. The information is intended to be used as an “educational handout” with the target audience, primarily general dentists. Clinical tips supported by endodontic literature will make up the body of content and the pamphlet could be used as a marketing tool to build relationships with referral sources.
