In fields such as prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and oral pathology, documentation by photography is an integral part of practice. Documentation by photography is not as widely utilized in endodontics. Clear records can assist in educating patients, treatment planning, communicating with referrals, and evaluating changes. The dental operating microscope (DOM) has become standard in many endodontic offices, and significant advances in technology have been made throughout the years to obtain documentation through the DOM. This technology allows documentation to be obtained seamlessly and eliminates interruptions in workflow. This table clinic will discuss technical and clinical aspects of photography through the DOM, examine different technologies available, and address challenges that may accompany implementation. Various photographs taken through the DOM of sinus tract evolution, access preparations, fracture detection, pathology, and internal bleaching will be included as visual aids in demonstrating how the photographs can be used for documentation and communication. Documentation by photography through the DOM provides an efficient way to appreciate healing, create records, and improve education and communication for patients and providers.
