Surround Medical Systems, Inc. manufactures and sells the game-changing stationary intraoral 3D Tomo dental X-ray system known as the PORTRAY™ System. The PORTRAY™ System and its innovative software allows dentists to gain significantly more information regarding dental pathologies by creating a volume of image slices, .5mm apart, which the dentist can scroll through using a computer mouse. Unlike conventional 2D imaging, which shows a planar image of a 3D object, the PORTRAY™ System uses 3D Tomosynthesis to reconstruct a number of X-rays taken from several angles into a 3D volume of images of the patient’s teeth. Tomosynthesis is the technology that revolutionized mammography when it was introduced ten years ago by revealing significantly more pathology than was possible to see in a 2D mammogram. Intraoral 3D Tomosynthesis offers a similar technology to dentists who want more information regarding caries, fractures, endodontic issues, periodontic conditions, and other oral pathologies. Surround Medical Systems believes that the PORTRAY™ System will be equally revolutionary for dentistry as it was in mammography.
