Clinicians attempting to identify and treat patients with stimulant use disorder face a variety of challenges. Even once the problem has been identified, there has been a paucity of treatment options available. This is of particular concern as provisional 12-month counts of the overdose deaths involving psychostimulants in the United States provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show an increase of 34.8% from the 12 months ending in June 2019 as compared to the 12 months ending in May 2020.

Leading experts will present the latest skills and strategies for the treatment of individuals with stimulant use disorder, including contingency management, use of extended-release bupropion and naltrexone (XR-NTX) as a combination medication approach, and motivational interviewing. The session will discuss how these approaches can be integrated into practices, as well as training and treatment programs. During an extended question-and-answer period, presenters and participants will acknowledge the specific barriers participants have experienced in their practices, identify the specific types of support believed necessary to assist patients, and share success stories.
