Dr. Saffier is a family physician involved in medical school, residency, and health professions education with a special focus on addiction medicine, chronic pain management, and motivational interviewing. He is president of the Medical Education and Research Foundation for the Treatment of Addiction, www.merfweb.org , a 501c(3), affiliated with the California Society of Addiction Medicine. He continues to work in “safety net” hospitals in medically underserved communities and helped found the Choosing Change Program, an out-patient group medical buprenorphine treatment program in Contra Costa Health Services Department. Ken teaches in the Contra Costa Regional Family Medicine Residency and is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, UC San Francisco. In 2012, he became a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
