Rita K. Noonan, PhD, is a sociologist and Branch Chief in CDC’s Division of Overdose Prevention. Dr. Noonan and her staff oversee the prevention components of CDC's funding initiative, Overdose Data to Action (OD2A), a $1.2B program that combines prevention, intervention, and public health surveillance to reduce drug-related overdose across the United States. Dr. Noonan works closely with several High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTAs), managing the public health component of the Overdose Response Strategy, linking public health and public safety across the entire nation. She has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship and a MacArthur Fellowship. She received her PhD from Indiana University.
