The Drug Safety Research Unit (DSRU) in Southampton is a leading independent research unit that monitors the safety of marketed medicines in order to protect patients from unwanted adverse effects of medicines in clinical use. The DSRU is the UK’s premier pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology unit and has a high national and international profile. The Unit has conducted studies on the safety of over 120 medicines since it was established over 40 years ago. We work on medicines prescribed in both primary and secondary care, as well as some vaccines, and collect both primary and secondary data. Our research team comprises medics, epidemiologists and postgraduate biomedical scientists.
