Pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) is one of the most common endocrine diseases in horses, generally affecting those over the age of 15 years. Thus, staying in-the-know of considerations for diagnosing, managing and feeding the PPID horse is important. This session of 4 speakers (2 hour session, 30 min talks each speaker) will highlight and review the pathophysiology of PPID, share important considerations based on new research in the diagnosis of PPID and ID, as well as treatment and dietary strategies of the PPID horse. All speakers are currently active in PPID clinical and/or research.

Learning Objectives:

The participant will be able to: • Describe the pathophysiology of PPID and select clinical signs • Develop a diagnostic plan for a horse with suspect PPID (with or without insulin dysregulation) • Formulate a treatment and management plan for a horse with PPID • Create a feeding plan for a horse with PPID (with or without insulin dysregulation, across a range of body condition scores)
