This symposium will provide information on patients with high TBSA burns and related complications at the inpatient rehabilitation level of care. Moreover, there are contemporary surgical techniques which require a shift in decision-making for rehabilitation approaches. Specifically, this presentation will highlight the complex decision making when considering comorbidities, conflicting medical goals, balancing expectations, managing pain, considering surgical intervention and the rehabilitation approach, protecting skin as patient’s re-engage in activity, wound management and skin healing, considerations for discharge, and facilitating successful outcomes that overcome environmental barriers in context of the ICF model.

Learning Objectives:

Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of burn rehabilitation principles and burn injury.
Develop a comprehensive interdisciplinary IP rehab plan of care and recommendations following discharge for burn survivors with a high TBSA
Be able to apply clinical reasoning to adjust POC with complex patients and higher TBSA in context of the ICF model
