Spasticity and spasms are some of the most common symptoms present in humans with spinal cord injury (SCI). Although the prevalence of these symptoms is high, our understanding of their mechanisms of action as well as the effectiveness of treatments remains limited. In this course, we will discuss the most current evidence on the mechanisms contributing to spasticity and spasms in animals and humans after SCI.

Learning Objectives:

Upon Completion, participant will be able to discuss the mechanisms of spasticity and spasms in animals and humans with spinal cord injury
Upon completion, participant will be able to review novel approaches and instruments used to assess and treat spasticity and spasms in clinical settings
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe available outcome measures for examination of involuntary motor behaviors in spinal cord injury
Upon completion, participant will be able to select appropriate outcome measure based on patient presentation and psychometric properties and clinical utility of the measure
