The rehabilitation field has experienced significant growth in the development of interventions that lead to improved patient outcomes. However, these interventions are rarely described in a manner that allows clinicians to effectively implement interventions in real-world settings. In response to this problem, the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS) was developed to guide researchers in their explicit description of rehabilitation interventions and explain how hypothesized “active ingredients” of interventions lead to improved treatment targets (e.g., outcomes). This symposium will provide an overview of the RTSS, describe the role of implementation science methodologies to optimize RTSS use, share examples of how the RTSS can advance the rehabilitation field, and present preliminary analyses that indicate specific strategies for overcoming RTSS implementation barriers.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the role of the RTSS and how widespread RTSS adoption can be enhanced through implementation science methodologies
Understand the value of applying the RTSS to describe rehabilitation interventions in a transparent and replicable manner
Explain 2-3 strategies that can support RTSS adoption by rehabilitation researchers, clinicians, and educators
