Dr. Whyte is a physiatrist and experimental psychologist, and founding director of the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, where he continues as Institute Scientist Emeritus. He research has focused on brain injury, including improvements in assessment, prognostication, and treatment, with a particular emphasis on impairments in consciousness and cognition. He has also written extensively on the special research challenges in rehabilitation and potential solutions, and has directed research career development programs for rehabilitation scientists locally and nationally. Most recently, he has been a lead developer of the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System, which provides a framework for describing all rehabilitation treatments with respect to their known or hypothesized active ingredients. Dr. Whyte has received multiple awards for his career achievements and in 2015 he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine.
