Karen Costenbader, MD, MPH holds the Michael Weinblatt, MD Distinguished Chair of Rheumatology and is Director of the Lupus Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Costenbader is a clinician and a clinical and translational investigator. Her research investigates the epidemiology and pathogenesis of SLE and RA. Dr. Costenbader is also an active clinical research mentor. She is PI of the BWH Lupus Registry containing data on over 2400 patients with SLE, and has established the BWH Lupus Biobank, used for studies investigating biomarkers, molecular signatures and genetics. She is the current chair of the Medical-Scientific Advisory Council for the Lupus Foundation of America. She serves on grant review committees and is a reviewer for multiple journals.
