(TC31) Application of Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin in Endodontic Microsurgery

Abstract: Bone grafting and autologous platelet concentrates are routinely used to promote tissue and bone regeneration in periodontal surgery. The application of second-generation platelet concentrates has been expanded into the discipline of endodontic microsurgery to stimulate cell proliferation, matrix remodeling, and angiogenesis in periapical defects. To synthesize the platelet concentrate, blood is first drawn from the patient and is centrifuged to separate it into three layers: red blood corpuscles, platelet poor plasma, and a Leukocyte Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) clot. The L-PRF clot contains an increased concentration of platelets, leukocytes, and growth factors for delivery to the surgical site. These are released over an extended period of time to promote improved wound healing and post-operative quality of life. The purpose of this table clinic is to present two case reports of L-PRF use in endodontic microsurgery.
