1166468 - E‐Enterprise for the Environment: Streamlining Air Emissions Reporting

Federal and State, Local, and Tribal (SLT) governments require industry to report facility and air emissions data to various programs and with various levels of detail. The EPA, in addition, requires states to report emissions data collected from industry. Furthermore, some program requirements are similar amongst federal and state programs, leading to redundancy and/or differences in data reported where there should be none. Reporting systems range from paper submissions to sophisticated reporting systems that perform calculations for the user. Similarly, industry reporting can vary in level of sophistication from reporters having to fill out electronic and online forms, to the capability of industry to submit data in electronic files (such as JSON) that are produced directly from computerized systems at the facility, for upload into government systems. Facility reporting can also vary with different reporters reporting to different systems for a single facility. Emissions reporting can be streamlined to save time and effort for both industry and staff in government agencies. Combined Air Emissions Reporting System (CAERS) developed by EPA and SLT is a good example of the effort. In this panel we will showcase existing applications, systems, and tools to gather feedback from presenters and attendees on needed and desired improvements to existing systems, needs that are not being met by current systems, and new functionality that would further facilitate and streamline emissions reporting by industry. The panel will include enhancements to federal air emissions reporting tools (such as CAERS and WebFIRE), as well as lessons learned from SLT reporting systems and experiences reporting to the EPA. Industry perspective will also be represented by industry reporters who will share their reporting tools and experiences.
