Essentials including basics on sedation, anesthesia, common diseases, and diagnostics will be discussed. Emphasis will be on species more commonly held as pets (e.g. puma, tigers). We will also cover personal safety and regulatory considerations you should know to protect yourself and your staff.
Learning Objectives:
Identify indications of renal disease in species of big cats, similar to domestic cats
List infectious diseases of concern for domestic cats that are also diseases of importance for big cat species (incl. rabies, CDV, SARS-CoV-2, FIP, FIV)
Describe how big cat species are dangerous and list the special precautions that should be used when planning exams and anesthesia
Develop preventative care plans for big cat species that similar to domestic cats and include vaccination (rabies, FVRCP), heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention, endoparasite monitoring and routine health exams by a veterinarian
