Dr. Aitken-Palmer is a diplomate with the American College of Zoological Medicine, a specialist in zoo, exotic and wildlife species.

She earned her DVM and a master’s degree in clinical sciences, both from K-State University in 2003. She also holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland where she became an expert in giant panda reproductive physiology. Those efforts led to the birth of 10 giant panda cubs through out the US.

She was named the Outstanding Young Alumnus by Kansas State University. She has worked in companion animal practice, was the head vet at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, and is now a senior veterinarian at the Chicago Zoological Society and a teleconsultant for VetCT, an international consulting group providing vet to vet specialty consults.
