Dr. Ashley Battarbee currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at The University of Alabama in Birmingham. Her medical training began after she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from Southwestern University in 2000. She completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2004 where she was named AOA and Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Northwestern University in 2008. She subsequently completed Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2019, during which time she also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research.
For the past few years she has been leading a multi-center randomized clinical trial aimed at preventing neonatal hypoglycemia after antenatal late preterm steroid administration and now is working on a randomized trial of glycemic management after antenatal corticosteroids in women with type 2 diabetes as part of her K23 funding from the NICHD. She serves as the Assistant Director for OB Research at UAB and is the site-PI for other clinical trials in high-risk pregnancies at UAB. In addition, she enjoys serving as a member of the UAB Institutional Review Board and Vice-Chair of the SMFM Research Committee. Ultimately Dr. Battarbee strives to become an independently-funded clinical researcher addressing maternal and child health with a specific focus on diabetes and continuous glucose monitoring in pregnancy.
