Obesity is the most common disease in women. It is a key contributor to cardiovascular disease and to some of the most serious complications women face during pregnancy. Although a prevalent and growing health issue, obesity has not received the attention it deserves.
A significant barrier to counseling and treating patients with obesity has to do with the stigma associated with obesity, a lack of awareness of effective intervention and the perception counseling may not be worth the effort.
This course will help raise awareness that obesity is preventable. It will also empower the maternal fetal medicine specialist with the tools needed to better care for patients with obesity and help reduce perinatal complications associated with obesity.
