Mesh implanted to address pelvic organ prolapse has been associated with complications, hypothesized to arise from mesh wrinkling and pore collapse. In response, our laboratory has developed an innovative auxetic mesh with pores designed to expand, in contrast to collapsing, when under tension. We systematically explored variations in fiber width, mesh thickness, and rounded edges to examine factors influencing wrinkle reduction. Through simulations replicating the effects of sutures, we quantified the curvature of each distinct mesh design. Notably, our observations highlighted that thinner meshes exhibited a greater degree of curvature, signifying a key parameter to optimize in the ongoing advancement of this auxetic mesh technology.
