We developed a novel in vitro wound healing assay to compare the effect of soluble factors that may be released from commercially available mesh products on human vaginal fibroblast wound closure in vitro. Our products included Poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB), a flexible organic biopolymer which is fully resorbed in vivo in 18-24 months. We found that complete fibroblast wound closure took approximately 72 hours to occur in all patient samples, and there was no inhibitory effect of leached media from P4HB, polypropylene, or PDS recovered at day 7 or day 114 on vaginal fibroblast wound closure.
