This interactive discussion will explore the challenges and best practices for implementing MHFA in faith communities. Four Instructors will share their experience providing trainings to diverse faith groups and provide insight on best practices. We will address potential barriers by exploring how to align the messages, themes and values of MHFA with those of faith communities in ways that bring cultural humility, equity and sustainability to MHFA initiatives. We’ll also provide practical tips on implementing a faith-based MHFA program. There will be ample time set aside to answer questions and capture your ideas.

Learning Objectives:

Examine possible barriers to MHFA and equip Instructors with tools to demonstrate ways that the values, themes and messages of MHFA align with those of faith communities.
Identify best practices for reaching faith-based communities with MHFA and to deliver the curriculum with cultural humility and fidelity to the curriculum.
Demonstrate the efficacy of MHFA curricula as an early intervention initiative in theological curricula for faith leadership, within congregations and in youth programs across the nation.
Review funding options and constraints for faith-based Mental Health First Aid initiatives.
Provide instructors with a roadmap for expanding the impact of Mental Health First Aid curricula to faith communities.
