She turned her career focus to supporting the self-regulatory challenges of adolescents and young adults. She established an ADHD coaching practice to help build executive function skills and began work towards a master's degree in clinical psychology before joining Mental Health Connecticut to execute SAMHSA's “Now is the Time” Project AWARE community grant to saturate Connecticut communities with Mental Health First Aid training. As an independent Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Valerie is committed to making Mental Health First Aid as common as CPR by integrating Mental Health First Aid into established employee training and community education systems. In 2019, Valerie founded the Mental Health Education Collaborative to expand Mental Health First Aid accessibility throughout Connecticut, including participation in the Teen Mental Health First Aid Pilot Program. In addition to her work in Connecticut communities, Valerie is a National Trainer for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, certifying Mental Health First Aid Instructors throughout the U.S. Valerie is certified to train Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and teen Mental Health First Aid.
