People living with serious mental health challenges and substance use disorders are overrepresented in the criminal justice system. Connecting them with access to appropriate treatment services is critical to improve outcomes and divert them from the justice system. This panel will discuss state and federal approaches to advance delivery system solutions and policy reforms.
Examine the current landscape of the U.S. criminal justice system and its connection to behavioral health.
Identify solutions needed at the federal and state level to achieve delivery system and policy reforms.
Identify educational and advocacy strategies to engage and inform key decision-makers to drive policy changes that address the social determinants of health.
