Daphne Swinton MPA, LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Trager Lemp Center: Treating Trauma and Promoting Resilience which is part of Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS). At the Trager Lemp Center, Daphne provides culturally sensitive, trauma informed, comprehensive outpatient, evidence-based treatment to adults and children who have experienced adverse life experiences. Trager Lemp Center is a premier trauma treatment center in Westchester County, New York that has been at the forefront of recognizing and addressing the psychological trauma caused by sexual abuse, domestic and community violence, and other traumatic life events.
Daphne loves creating and facilitating trainings. In addition to this NatCon presentation: Implementing Trauma-informed Supervision to Respond to the Collective Traumas of COVID-19 and Racism, she has been involved in multiple new training opportunities during the pandemic. She became a curriculum contributor and certified trainer for Soul Shop for Black Churches, which is a suicide awareness and prevention initiative. Daphne co-created and facilitated a 2-part training “Exploring and Understanding Racial Trauma: Taking the Pulse & Beginning the Healing” offered by Coordinated Behavioral Care's Training Institute. She has also created and presented workshops on "Building Partnerships: Mental Health Professionals & Faith Community", "Assessing & Addressing Congregational Mental Health Wellness" and "Pandemic Fatigue."
Daphne retired from Westchester County Department of Social Services during the pandemic, after thirty plus years. She worked in many capacities, but specialised in Child Welfare roles from Social Caseworker to Commissioner’s Senior Staff. Her leadership roles have included: Supervisor, Manager, and Director of Operations. Her responsibilities have included: overseeing day to day operations, program, policy, contracts, and quality assurance. Since her retirement Daphne was selected by Westchester County’s Trauma Informed Subcommittee to be the first Westchester County Trauma Informed Supervision Coordinator after having presented to, and co-facilitated, multiple cohorts in Trauma Informed Supervision.
Daphne is an Ordained Reverend at Union Baptist Church in White Plains New York where she is the Minister of Christian Care and Counseling Ministry. This involves direct counseling, referrals for lay care and professional counseling, and bereavement supports and services. She is actively engaged in community work that examines issues related to the intersectionality of mental health and faith including her recent work of co-creating the Westchester County Directory of Faith Affirming Mental Health Providers. She is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and New York Theological Seminary.
