More than 50% of incarcerated individuals have mental health and substance use disorders. Law enforcement officers are the most frequent first responders to individuals in crisis. States with the lowest access to mental health services have the highest incarceration rates. For CBHOs to work collaboratively with the criminal justice system (CJS) to divert individuals to the treatment they need will requires increasing access to care, improving crisis response networks, supporting appropriate care for incarcerated individuals and creating care pathways to decrease further penetration into the CJS.

Learning Objectives:

Use sequential intercept mapping to identify partners, resources, gaps and barriers.
Develop a common language to facilitate communication among stakeholders.
Identify best practices that support integrated workflows between community-based services and the CJS.
Building a Team Based Model for Crisis Intervention and System Transtions that decrease incarceration and recidivism, and increase access to care
